Arthroscopic surgery for children is a minimally invasive surgical procedure used to diagnose and treat joint problems. The procedure involves the doctor making a small incision at the joint and then inserting a device with a thin camera, called an arthroscope. This allows a detailed view of the inside of the joint without the need for a large incision.
In children, it is most often used to treat knee, ankle or elbow problems, such as ligament, cartilage or joint injuries. The procedure has the advantage of faster healing and less pain than traditional open joint surgery. Rehabilitation is usually shorter and children can return to daily activities more quickly.
