"Our gastroenterologists and dietitians aim to provide you with the latest scientific advances in disease prevention, early detection, and personalized treatment. We seek to identify causal links between often complex clinical symptoms (complaints) and the underlying (molecular) pathological changes.
Early Detection and Personalized Treatment of Disease
We aim to treat the cause, not just the symptom! For example, high blood sugar and blood pressure values can easily be lowered with medication, but we focus on discovering where control was lost and what led to the condition. By identifying and addressing the root cause, symptoms can be relieved or even completely resolved.
Through the series of molecular, genetic, and digital revolutions of the 21st century including artificial intelligence and advanced image processing we can now map the human body with unprecedented detail. Yet, the causal treatment of the most significant public health conditions remains unresolved: obesity, diabetes, hypertension, atherosclerosis and its consequences (heart attack and stroke), most cancers, and many autoimmune diseases.
How is this possible?
Basic research and clinical practice are typically a decade apart. Our mission is to make accessible what is already scientifically known but has not yet become part of routine medical care.
The Human Genome Project and microbiome research—the study of the shared ecosystem created by the microorganisms living within us—have brought revolutionary change to medicine in the past decade, comparable to the impact of the internet or mobile phones. But the true breakthrough came from their convergence. With the latest biosensors, we now gain insights into early pathological changes, such as the links between sleep patterns and the gut microbiota.
We focus on diseases and symptoms for which large-scale, high-impact scientific data has recently emerged—or is expected soon—enabling fundamentally new approaches to treatment based on these principles. Month by month, the number of unexplored causes decreases. With these results, we can analyze whether proven causal factors can be identified behind the appearance of clinical symptoms.
